* Ζοφερή η κατάσταση των μικρομεσαίων επιχειρήσεων στη Μεσσηνία
* Ζοφερή είναι, σύμφωνα με τη ΓΣΕΒΕΕ, η εικόνα που εμφανίζεται στο λιανικό εμπόριο από τα επίσημα στατιστικά στοιχεία, ενώ αναδεικνύει και την κατάσταση συνολικά της οικονομίας, καθώς οι εξελίξεις στο εμπόριο επηρεάζουν πολλούς κλάδους, όπως η μεταποίηση, η βιοτεχνία, οι μεταφορές κ.λπ.
* Προς επίρρωση των παραπάνω, σε δηλώσεις του στο «Θ» ο πρόεδρος του Εμπορικού Συλλόγου Καλαμάτας Γιώργος Λαγανάκος υποστήριξε ότι «υπάρχουν αρκετές εμπορικές επιχειρήσεις στην Καλαμάτα που έχουν αναστείλει τη λειτουργία τους και άλλες που προσπαθούν με όλες τις δυνάμεις τους να επιβιώσουν. Και πολύ φοβάμαι ότι, αν η κυβέρνηση δεν αλλάξει πολιτική, ο αριθμός των κλειστών καταστημάτων θα αυξηθεί δραματικά. Σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία μας, στη Μεσσηνία τον τελευταίο χρόνο έχουν κλείσει 150 καταστήματα».
** 70% η πτώση του τζίρου
* "Ξεζαντάραμε" λένε οι ταξιτζήδες
* Στο 60% έως 70% μειώθηκε ο τζίρος των 156 και πλέον ταξί της Καλαμάτας τους τελευταίους μήνες, σε σύγκριση με το αντίστοιχο διάστημα τα προηγούμενα χρόνια, εξαιτίας της οικονομικής κρίσης. Ο αριθμός των πολιτών που επιλέγουν να πάρουν ταξί για τις μετακινήσεις τους μειώνεται καθημερινά, με συνέπεια να μειώνονται και τα έσοδα των αυτοκινητιστών.
* Η μειωμένη κίνηση αλλά και οι αυξήσεις στις τιμές των καυσίμων έχουν, επίσης, ως αποτέλεσμα να μην επαρκούν οι πιάτσες ταξί που υπάρχουν στο πολεοδομικό συγκρότημα για τη φιλοξενία των οχημάτων που αναμένουν πελάτη και τη στάση των διερχομένων οδηγών.
** Αεροδρόμιο Καλαμάτας
* 20 εκατ. ευρώ τα έργα εκσυγχρονισμού του
* Περίπου 20 εκατομμύρια ευρώ εκτιμάται πως θα στοιχίσουν τα έργα εκσυγχρονισμού του αεροδρομίου της Καλαμάτας, σύμφωνα με όσα ανέφερε απαντώντας σε σχετική ερώτηση ο αντιπεριφερειάρχης Μεσσηνίας Χρ. Μαλαπάνης.
* Ο κ. Μαλαπάνης, ο οποίος ξεκίνησε την προετοιμασία του θέματος, στο πλαίσιο υλοποίησης της σχετικής απόφασης του Περιφερειακού Συμβουλίου Πελοποννήσου, είπε πως έγινε μια πρώτη συνάντηση, προκειμένου να συζητηθούν τα απαιτούμενα έργα.
* Ζήτημα πρώτης προτεραιότητας είναι η απαλλοτρίωση των 44 στρεμμάτων, όπου διαπιστώθηκε πως χρειάζεται ανανέωση των περιβαλλοντικών όρων.

** Κορώνη
* Το Ασπρόχωμα παρέχει δυνατότητες ανάπτυξης

Αυτά και πολλά ακόμη θα συζητηθούν στην τριήμερη εκδήλωση της Κορώνης, με συνδιοργανωτές την UNESCO, το υπουργείο Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης και Τροφίμων, το υπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Τουρισμού και το Δήμο Πύλου - Νέστορος.

* Η ποδηλατοδρομία που πραγματοποιήθηκε την περασμένη Κυριακή 29 Μαΐου στην ευρύτερη περιοχή του Ασπροχώματος, από τους Ποδηλάτες Καλαμάτας και τους κατοίκους της περιοχής, δείχνει το δρόμο της ουσιαστικής ανάπτυξης του Δήμου Καλαμάτας, αναφέρει σχετικό δελτίο Τύπου του Πολιτιστικού και Εξωραϊστικού Συλλόγου Δυτικής Παραλίας και Νέας Εισόδου Καλαμάτας «Ο Ποσειδών».
** Υπόγειο πάρκινγκ
* Τα είπαν Δημοτική Αρχή και "Ελλάκτωρ"
* Σύσκεψη κορυφής, η οποία κράτησε σχεδόν δύο ώρες, πραγματοποιήθηκε χθες στην Τεχνική Υπηρεσία μεταξύ εκπροσώπων της Δημοτικής Αρχής, με επικεφαλής το δήμαρχο Παν. Νίκα, και αρμόδιων αντιδημάρχων και εκπροσώπων της εταιρείας «Ελλάκτωρ», εν όψει των υπογραφών της σύμβασης για την έναρξη κατασκευής του υπόγειου χώρου στάθμευσης στο ύψος του Διοικητηρίου.
* Το περιερχόμενο της συνάντησης των δύο πλευρών δεν έγινε γνωστό, αλλά θα πρέπει να θεωρείται βέβαιο ότι κατά τη διάρκειά της εξετάστηκαν όλα τα τεχνικά και οικονομικά ζητήματα που διέπουν το έργο. Τις επόμενες ημέρες, ίσως και σήμερα, θα πρέπει να αναμένονται σχετικές ανακοινώσεις από πλευράς Δημοτικής Αρχής, ενώ θα υπάρξει και συζήτηση στην αμέσως επόμενη συνεδρίαση του Δημοτικού Συμβουλίου Καλαμάτας.
** Σκουπίδια
* Ολοκλήρωση διαδικασιών για το διαγωνισμό
* Συνεχίζεται από πλευράς της αρμόδιας επιτροπής του Δήμου Καλαμάτας η εξέταση των δικαιολογητικών που κατέθεσαν οι τρεις εταιρείες (Ram, Μεσόγειος Α.Ε. και Ηλέκτωρ, συμφερόντων της οικογένειας Μπόμπολα) οι οποίες συμμετείχαν στο διαγωνισμό για την επεξεργασία των απορριμμάτων του Δήμου, προϋπολογισμού 3,1 εκατομμυρίων ευρώ περίπου για ένα χρόνο, με δυνατότητα παράτασης για ακόμη έναν.
* Η παραπάνω διαδικασία φαίνεται αρκετά επίπονη και η επιτροπή διαγωνισμού καταβάλλει κάθε προσπάθεια ώστε το αποτέλεσμα να μην μπορεί να αμφισβητηθεί από καμία πλευρά. Πάντως, μέχρι τις αρχές της επόμενης εβδομάδας υπολογίζεται να έχει ξεκαθαρίσει το θέμα.
** Προληπτική οδοντιατρική
* Τα παιδιά δε φοβούνται πια τον οδοντίατρο!
* Είχαμε την εντύπωση ότι τα παιδιά, αν όχι φόβο, ένα δισταγμό απέναντι στον οδοντίατρο τον είχαν. Κι όμως, χθες στο 19ο Νηπιαγωγείο Καλαμάτας εκπλαγήκαμε από την άνεση με την οποία έπαιρναν θέση για να εξεταστούν από τον κ. Νικητόπουλο, ο οποίος επισκέφθηκε το σχολείο στο πλαίσιο της Εβδομάδας Προληπτικής Οδοντιατρικής που υλοποιεί ο Οδοντιατρικός Σύλλογος Μεσσηνίας. Όχι μόνο δεν έδειχναν τρομαγμένα, αλλά απολάμβαναν και την όλη διαδικασία!
** Ν.Ε. ΠΑΣΟΚ
* Επικίνδυνο το αντιμνημονιακό παραλήρημα Σαμαρά
* Ο κ. Σαμαράς οργάνωσε Ζάππειο Ι και Ζάππειο ΙΙ, για να φανερώσει στο λαό το περιβόητο σχέδιό του, που θα μπορούσε υποτίθεται να λύσει το οικονομικό μας πρόβλημα. Πλην, όμως, ματαίως. Δεν τον ακούει κανείς, εκτός από το σκληρό πυρήνα της παράταξής του. Δέκα εννέα ολόκληρους μήνες κάνει ό,τι περνάει απ’ το χέρι του για να μπορέσει να πείσει τους Έλληνες ότι έχει τη μαγική, τη μοναδική, αξιόπιστη λύση για τη χώρα. Άνθρακες όμως ο θησαυρός. Δεν πείθει, δεν εμπνέει, δεν έχει απήχηση, αδυνατεί να προσφέρει σοβαρή, εναλλακτική πρόταση εξόδου από την κρίση.

Antitrust Eurocommissar Joaquin Almunia points out last year, the European Commission and the competition authorities of our 27 Member States in the European Competition Network issued more than one hundred decisions based on Articles 101 and 102. EU antitrust has been transformed into a terrorist religion, which relies on pseudoeconomic theories that bestow a veneer of objectivity and credibility on EU law enforcement practices that actually rely on hunch, whim, and blackmail.
On all EU antitrust cases, from mergers to price fixing, arbitrary antitrust laws lead to ill-informed juries and bureaucratic abuse. Those laws also create a perverse incentive for entrepreneurs to hold down sales volume, stop innovation, and avoid improvements in price, quality, and service; otherwise, such entrepreneurs could become the next targets of the antitrust terrorists.
Since the start of the European Competition Network(ECN) in 2004, Eurokleptocrats have decided more than 500 cases. More importantly, their decisions have become more consistent and their workload better allocated. Over a year ago, Almunia adopted provisional Antitrust Best Practices with innovations such as earlier opening of formal proceedings and state of play meetings at key points of the process. During the public consultation, Almunia has received many critical comments. Importantly, Almunia has taken the time to test the draft measures in practice. Thanks to this work, Almunia has prepared a new version of the Best Practices which he will soon put forward for consultation in the Commission and with the national antitrust authorities.
European antitrust laws lead to huge corruption, because government officials ask for kickbacks in order to erase the alleged violation. The standard kickback in EU is 10% of the erased penalty! Many Greek officials were caught on tape asking for the corrupt tithe! Many European political parties make up their election expenses from kickbacks on antitrust cases! The main innovation is the inclusion of a section on fines in the Statement of Objections. In the future, companies will have a better idea, at an early stage, of the elements taken into account to calculate the fines; such as the value of the cartelised sales, an indication of the gravity, and issues of recidivism.
This innovation will open a channel for dialogue with the parties: it will help Almunia exchange information relevant to the calculation of the fines, and avoid post-decision corrections which, although they remain rare, are always unpleasant for both sides. The Best Practices will also give the parties earlier and wider access to key documents, such as economic studies, before formal objections are raised. In this way, they will be able to better understand the issues being investigated and to explain their point of view.
Also, the state of play meetings, which have proved to be very useful, will be extended from antitrust proceedings to cartel cases. The parties will have the right to meet Almunia's services after the oral hearing to discuss how the case is proceeding. State of play meetings will also be introduced for complainants so that Almunia can discuss with them whether he will continue to investigate a matter that they have raised with him. The overall goals of these changes are to make Almunia's procedures more transparent and to involve the parties more closely.
European antitrust law is wielded most often by favor-seeking businessmen and their kleptocrat allies. The right to a fair hearing is a fundamental right. This right is safeguarded by the two Hearing Officers, who report directly to Almunia. However, their role is currently limited to the stages in Almunia's proceedings after the statement of objections is sent. But Almunia believes procedural rights need to be upheld since the start of an investigation, and he plans to revise their mandate accordingly in the course of this year. Aged 56, Haleh Sahabi had known the suffering of the families of prisoners of conscience all her life. Since her childhood, her father and other relatives had spent spells in prison under two successive regimes. As her result of her activities in support of the families of political prisoners who had been executed during the 1980s, she became a spokesperson for the victims of political oppression – something the regime could not tolerate.
Marilizardists use charge stacking, which is the ability to charge a large number of overlapping crimes for a single course of conduct. The potential for injustice is heightened when each of the alleged crimes is vague and overly broad. However even if each of these offenses is narrowly defined to cover only serious misconduct, combining crimes enables prosecutors to get convictions in cases where there may be no misconduct at all. When deciding whether to plead guilty, any rational defendant takes account of the sentence the defendant may receive if he goes to trial and loses. By stacking enough charges, Marilizardists try to jack up the threat value of trial and thereby induce a guilty plea, even if the government's case is weak.

* The idea of a distributed mind among animals is not new, according to Peter Godfrey-Smith, who focuses his efforts on the philosophy of science. "This suggests that animal minds lack the cohesiveness that humans have," said Godfrey-Smith, a philosophy professor at Harvard. "It may have something to do with consciousness. Maybe it acts as a unifying tool."
Alvin Powell points out Godfrey-Smith has been swimming with octopuses for years, diving in and around Sydney Harbour during summer breaks in his native Australia. It is only recently, however, that he noticed that supremely camouflaged octopuses were pretty common there.
"For years, I was swimming and diving in this area of Sydney Harbour. I had an idea they were there, but didn't know what to look for," Godfrey-Smith said.
Once he understood what to look for, he realized octopuses were all around. They're so well-camouflaged, he said, it is best to look not for the animal, but for their dens. They often collect bits of marine debris — broken glass, tiles, and other hard substances — and put them out front.
"They're watching us even if we're not watching them," Godfrey-Smith said.
Intrigued, he looked into the scientific literature and was struck by how little was known about octopuses. Octopuses and other cephalopods such as squids are thought to be the most intelligent invertebrates, but the nature of their intelligence is still a mystery.
Octopuses have large nervous systems, centered around relatively large brains. But more than half of their 500 million neurons are found in the arms themselves, Godfrey-Smith said. This raises the question of whether the arms have something like minds of their own. Though the question is controversial, there is some observational evidence indicating that it could be so, he said. When an octopus is in an unfamiliar tank with food in the middle, some arms seem to crowd into the corner seeking safety while others seem to pull the animal toward the food, Godfrey-Smith explained, as if the creature is literally of two minds about the situation.
Powell notes there may be other explanations for the observations. But whatever the answer, it seems likely that octopus intelligence is quite different from that of humans and, as researchers ponder the broader meaning of intelligence, may be as different as is likely to be encountered, short of finding it on other planets. http://venitism.blogspot.com/
That's because other creatures that are believed intelligent — such as dolphins, chimpanzees, some birds, elephants — are relatively closely related to humans. They're all on the vertebrate branch of the tree of life, so there's a chance the intelligence shares at least some characteristics. Powell points out octopuses are invertebrates. Our last common ancestor reaches back to the dim depths of time, 500 million to 600 million years ago. That means octopus intelligence likely evolved entirely separately and could be very different from that of vertebrates.
"Octopuses let us ask which features of our minds can we expect to be universal whenever intelligence arises in the universe, and which are unique to us," Godfrey-Smith said. "They really are an isolated outpost among invertebrates. From the point of view of the philosophy of the mind, they are a big deal."

I am here because of what I have said. I am here for having spoken. I have spoken, I speak and I shall continue to speak. Many have kept silent, but not Pim Fortuyn, not Theo Van Gogh, and not I.
I am obliged to speak. For the Netherlands is under threat of Islam. As I have argued many times, Islam is chiefly an ideology. An ideology of hatred, of destruction, of conquest. It is my strong conviction that Islam is a threat to Western values, to freedom of speech, to the equality of men and women, of heterosexuals and homosexuals, of believers and unbelievers.
All over the world we can see how freedom is fleeing from Islam. Day by day we see our freedoms dwindle. Islam is opposed to freedom. Renowned scholars of Islam from all parts of the world agree on this. My witness experts subscribe to my view. There are more Islam scholars whom the court did not allow me to call upon to testify. All agree with my statements, they show that I speak the truth. That truth is on trial today.
We must live in the truth, said the dissidents under Communist rule, because the truth will set us free. Truth and freedom are inextricably connected. We must speak the truth because otherwise we shall lose our freedom. That is why I have spoken, why I speak and why I shall continue to speak.
The statements for which I am being tried are statements which I made in my function as a politician participating in the public debate in our society. My statements were not aimed at individuals, but at Islam and the process of islamization. That is why the Public Prosecutor has concluded that I should be acquitted.

I am acting within a long tradition which I wish to honour. I am risking my life in defence of freedom in the Netherlands. Of all our achievements freedom is the most precious and the most vulnerable. Many have given their lives for freedom. We have been reminded of that in the commemorations of the month of May. But the struggle for freedom is much older.
Every day the armoured cars drive me past the statue of Johan de Witt at the Hofvijver in The Hague. De Witt wrote the "Manifesto of True Freedom" and he paid for freedom with his life. Every day I go to my office through the Binnenhof where Johan van Oldenbarneveldt was beheaded after a political trial. Leaning on his stick the elderly Oldenbarneveldt addressed his last words to his people. He said: "I have acted honourably and piously as a good patriot." Those words are also mine.
I do not wish to betray the trust of the 1.5 million voters of my party. I do not wish to betray my country. Inspired by Johan van Oldenbarneveldt and Johan de Witt I wish to be a politician who serves the truth end hence defends the freedom of the Dutch provinces and of the Dutch people. I wish to be honest, I wish to act with honesty and that is why I wish to protect my native land against Islam. Silence is treason. That is why I have spoken, why I speak and why I shall continue to speak.
Freedom and truth. I pay the price every day. Day and night I have to be protected against people who want to kill me. I am not complaining about it; it has been my own decision to speak. However, those who threaten me and other critics of Islam are not being tried here today. I am being tried. And about that I do complain.
I consider this trial to be a political trial. The values of D66 [a Dutch leftist liberal party] and NRC Handelsblad [a Dutch leftist liberal party] will never be brought before a judge in this country. One of the complainants clearly indicated that his intentions are political. Even questions I have asked in parliament and cooperation with the SGP are being brought as allegations against me by Mr Rabbae of GroenLinks [the leftist Dutch Green Party]. Those on the Left like to tamper with the separation of powers. When they cannot win politically because the Dutch people have discerned their sinister agenda, they try to win through the courts. Whatever your verdict may be, that is the bitter conclusion of this trial.
This trial is also surrealistic. I am being compared with the Hutu murderers in Rwanda and with Mladic. Only a few minutes ago some here have doubted my mental health. I have been called a new Hitler. I wonder whether those who call me such names will also be sued, and if not, whether the Court will also order prosecution. Probably not. And that is just as well. Because freedom of speech applies also to my opponents.
My right to a fair trial has been violated. The order of the Amsterdam Court to prosecute me was not just a decision but a condemning verdict by judges who condemned me even before the actual trial had begun.
Mister President, members of the Court, you must now decide whether freedom still has a home in the Netherlands.

"Freedom," said the American President Dwight Eisenhower, "has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die."
Mister President, members of the Court, you have a great responsibility. Do not cut freedom in the Netherlands from its roots, our freedom of expression. Acquit me. Choose freedom.
